LINEAR CODES
An abstract series based on shapes and colour grids, each painting began with an acrylic coloured ground and application of a loose grid in dripped enamel paint. Over this was worked a build up of contrasting shapes. My abstract painting usually has some clear references to the history of abstraction and my earlier work. In this instance the complex linear work of Juan Usle and Terry Winters and my earlier Drip Flow series and development of shapes in Pacific Choreography. I was able to explore new surface qualities and colour combinations and was as interested in the space behind these shapes as in the shapes themselves. The work suggests connections to surreal realms and inexplicable flattened landscapes.
